The federal government has freed over four thousand inmates in the correctional facilities, as part of decongestion efforts in the country.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who confirmed this to journalists in Abuja, said the release of the inmates has made the country to save over one billion naira in inmate feeding costs.
Tunji-Ojo further revealed that President Bola Tinubu has also approved the increase in the feeding allowances of inmates in the country.
