The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TCN) has decried the high cost of living, calling for an urgent increase in workers’ allowances to ease mounting economic hardship.

In a statement by its President, Festus Osifo, and General Secretary, Nuhu Toro, the union demanded an improved social welfare package, insisting that higher allowances are critical to cushioning the impact of runaway inflation.

The TUC urged governments at all levels to act swiftly by reviewing and boosting workers’ allowances as a temporary relief measure, pending the full rollout of a new national minimum wage in 2027, in line with labour laws.
