Hundreds of retired police officers have protested at the national assembly in Abuja, demanding payment of their pensions.
The retired officers, who spoke with newsmen, accused the federal government of neglecting their welfare, failing to pay their pensions and subjecting them to unnecessary hardship after years of service.
The retirees therefore called for the abolition of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) for police personnel, while appealing to the government to return to the former defined benefits scheme that guaranteed steady payments.
