The Federal Government says Nigeria spends about 6 billion dollars yearly on imported clothing despite ongoing efforts to revive the local textile industry.

Minister of industry, trade and investment, Olajumoke Oduwole, said the sector is battling weak infrastructure, high import dependence and trade malpractices.

She added that smuggling and porous borders continue to hurt local manufacturers, noting that over 90 percent of fabrics commonly used in Nigeria, including Ankara, are imported.
