Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has criticized the western-style democracy practiced in many African countries, saying it does not reflect the continent’s realities.
Obasanjo said the model has fostered a winner-takes-all political culture, where election victors often ignore those who lose.
He spoke this Tuesday at the 2026 Goodluck Jonathan foundation democracy dialogue in Bauchi, stressing the need for an African democratic model that better reflects the continent’s unique political and social realities.
