Human Rights Lawyer, Femi Falana, has urged the Lagos State Government to immediately stop what he described as illegal and unconstitutional demolitions of waterfront properties.
Falana cited existing court orders barring forced evictions and demolitions in waterfront communities such as Makoko, Oko-Agbon, Sogunro, and Iwaya, stating that any continued demolition in these areas violates the rule of law.
He also recalled a June 22, 2017 judgment by the Lagos high court, delivered by Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo, which declared similar evictions illegal and left over 30,000 residents homeless, warning that history must not repeat itself.
