Senate Public Accounts Committee has commenced a probe into the 52 billion Naira special public works scheme implemented by the federal government in 2020

The scheme coordinated by the National Directorate of Employment under the supervision of the Minister of State for Labour and Employment was targeted at employing 1,000 unskilled youths in each of the 774 local government areas for three months with a monthly stipend of 20,000 Naira.

Members of the committee, at an investigative hearing, discovered that only 26 Billion Naira of the total 52 Billion Naira spent on the programme was accessed from the fund, with the committee directing the agency to submit names of beneficiaries of the scheme across the country.
