Telecommunications companies say they have disconnected over 40 million subscribers who did not present their National Identity Numbers in line with Nigeria’s Subscribers Identification Module and NIN linkage policy.
Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria, Gbenga Adebayo, who disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists, revealed that more lines will still be disconnected.
Recall that the federal government had on the 16th of December, 2020 introduced the NIN-SIM linkage initiative to enable security agencies to track criminals.
