Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Joash Amupitan, has disclosed that the cost of conducting governorship elections alone exceeds the combined cost of presidential and national assembly elections.
Speaking during a visit to the revenue mobilization allocation and fiscal commission in Abuja, he appealed for increased and sustained funding ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amupitan said adequate funding is essential for INEC to carry out its constitutional responsibilities, including elections, voter registration and political party registration.
